Here is a painting project with lots of benefits:
It includes a surprise factor, it can also expose youngsters to the concept of color mixing, and it is guaranteed to bring a great burst of color to the room on a dark snowy day. It also introduces kids in grades K-2 to symmetry.
The task is to paint a butterfly, and the trick is to paint just one half of the butterfly with relatively light colors. A vivid, symmetrical artwork results from folding the paper in half and pressing the wet paint onto the other half.
Material:
- A piece of watercolor paper, drawing paper, or building paper (I used 11″ x 14″ drawing paper),
- A paintbrush.
- The black magic marker with a fine tip.
- The three fundamental hues of liquid acrylic or liquid tempera paint are red, blue, and yellow.
- Three little paint pots, a paint palette, and a bottle of water for rinsing brushes.
