So you’ve worked for years, sacrificed your social life, stayed hundreds of nights awake working overtime, almost wanted to give up, and suddenly, you received a promotion email from your boss out of the blue. All the years you spent wondering when you’d make it flashed before your eyes. And now, you’ve finally got what you’ve been working so hard for right in front of you.
Sit back, breathe deeply, and let the reality sink in that you finally got promoted. Congratulations! You finally made it to the next level of your dream career. I bet you’re still on cloud nine and can’t believe you’ve finally reaped what you’ve sown. Likely, you couldn’t help but immediately share the good news with your family and friends.
Fast forward to five years, and you’re acing your position. Now, the tables have turned, and you’re the one who’s in charge of managing and evaluating your junior colleagues. You and your other managers have decided to promote your junior colleague who’s been acing his work since day one. Funnily, you see your younger self in him and want to reward him personally by giving him a small present.
The thing is, thinking of a present to give someone is no walk in the park. So if you’ve been thinking of what present to give your junior colleague, this post will help you. Here are six gifts to give a fellow who just got promoted.
1 – A necktie
Usually, people gift a burgundy wedding tie to a fellow who’s about to get married. However, people in the corporate world give the gents a necktie whenever they’re about to embark on a new journey. Of course, getting a promotion is more than just embarking on a new journey. For many, it signifies a trophy for their hard work and sacrifices.
If your workplace requires a formal suit and tie attire, it is a perfect gift idea. You might want to choose a colour that can easily match any suit colour for easy styling. According to The New York Times, a tie represents power and financial success. Don’t you think those representations perfectly symbolise your wishes for your junior colleague?
If your fellow loves stylish corporate attire, give him a tie as a congratulatory gift.
2 – A personalised pen
Even though most documents and transactions are now digital, it’s still essential to always have a pen. The higher your position is, the more documents you have to review and sign personally in the corporate world. And so, a personalised pen is always a great gift idea.
To make it more significant, I suggest personalising the pen. One famous pen brand that has a rich history is Parker. It is prominent for its quality, style, and personalisation options, making it a well-loved gift up to this day. Of course, many other brands exist today that also offer quality pens.
Whichever brand or pen type you give, I suggest personalising it for a more personal present.
3 – A handkerchief
In different places, a handkerchief comes with various meanings and symbols. Some say that a hanky will bring bad luck; others say it symbolises communication between lovers; some believe it is a sign of faithfulness. Frankly, every single thing on this planet has various meanings and symbols for every person. But at the end of the day, it all boils down to your intent and the gift’s usefulness.
Truthfully, a handkerchief has many uses. But in the corporate world, it is also used as an accessory to a man’s overall outfit. Also, a gent could never know when he’ll need a hanky to help a lady out or wipe away his face due to the weather. So if you’re hesitating to gift your junior fellow a handkerchief because of the symbolisms you heard, this is your sign that it’s a good gift idea.
4 – A leather desk mat
When you first got promoted, you likely enjoyed curating your office into a style you like. After all, it’s exciting and fun to personalise the things around us, and it could also help motivate us to work. With that, why don’t you gift your junior fellow a desk mat to help him start curating his new office desk?
Whether he is moving to a new office or not, a leather desk mat is a nice gift for any hard-working gent. It would be a great addition to elevate a desk–and hopefully, keep it tidy as much as possible. If your junior colleague doesn’t have one yet, take this opportunity to gift him one.
5 – A personalised desk nameplate
Another great gift idea for a promotion is a personalised desk nameplate. Like I said in the leather desk mat, this is a nice celebratory gift whether or not he’s moving into a new office. You don’t necessarily have to give them a glass desk nameplate like the ones real offices have.
It could be as simple as a smaller wooden version of a nameplate or even an acrylic one. Aside from your junior fellow’s name, you can also add his newly promoted position to make it more significant. Your junior will surely love it and will be motivated to work even harder whenever he sees his desk nameplate with his promotion role.
6 – A bottle of wine
Last but not least is a bottle of wine. Wine is a drink that many people around the globe love. And the older the wine is, the more tasteful, expensive, and rare it would be. Many believe a bottle of wine signifies prestige, integrity, wealth, and uniqueness. After all, it’s called the “drink of the Gods” for a reason.
If you have the extra pounds to spare, and this junior fellow is dear to you, why don’t you gift him an exquisite bottle of wine as a celebratory gift? It is a perfect gift that your junior can share with his family and friends. So if you’ve been thinking of getting him an old, classic bottle of wine, this is your sign to do so.
The thoughtfulness behind every gift is what really matters.
Hopefully, my suggestions will help you find a gift you can give your junior fellow. If you think your junior already has what I suggested, here’s a reminder. The thoughtfulness behind every present is what truly matters. So don’t hesitate to get the gift you’ve been thinking of because your junior will surely appreciate it.
